GWM has officially revealed the refreshed GWM Tank 300 facelift in China, releasing the first official photos ahead of a pre-sale launch scheduled for July 6, 2026. The updates go well beyond cosmetics: a substantially larger body, a new roof-mounted LiDAR unit, and an all-new plug-in hybrid system with more than five times the battery capacity of the outgoing model.

New Look, LiDAR on the Roof

The front end takes a more assertive approach. The outgoing circular badge is replaced by bold block “TANK” letteringacross the nose, bringing it in line with the brand’s newer products. The revised front bumper features a reduced overhang, improving the approach angle for off-road use, and the front axle has been moved forward relative to the front wheels to support this geometry.

Additional accessory mounting fasteners have been added at the base of the A-pillars, allowing LED floodlights or cameras to be bolted on without modification to the body. The overall design draws clear comparison to the Hooke Edition prototype GWM displayed at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.

The most talked-about detail is a roof-mounted LiDAR unit. Its presence points strongly to GWM’s Coffee Pilot Ultra advanced driver assistance system, suggesting at least some variants will offer significantly more capable semi-autonomous functionality than the current generation.

Bigger in Every Direction

The 2027 GWM Tank 300 grows across every dimension. The new body measures 4,886mm long, 1,984mm wide, and 1,927mm tall, riding on a 3,010mm wheelbase. The outgoing model sits at 4,750mm long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,903mm tall on a 2,750mm wheelbase.

The 260mm wheelbase extension is the headline figure, reflecting what appears to be a full platform stretch rather than a simple body revision. The suspension layout is retained: front double-wishbone and rear multi-link live-axle. A rear locking differential is standard; a front locking differential is expected to be offered as an option.

Hi4-Z PHEV: 200km on a Single Charge

The ICE powertrain options are expected to carry over unchanged: the 2.4-litre turbo diesel at 490Nm, the 3.0-litre V6 petrol at 265kW (355hp), and a revised 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, now producing 175kW (235hp). All variants are four-wheel drive.

The headline addition is GWM’s brand-new Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid system, making its debut in the Tank 300. Paired with a 60kWh battery pack, it is rated for 200km of electric-only range under WLTC testing. The current model uses the Hi4-T system with a 37.1kWh battery, which falls well short of that figure on the same standard.

GWM’s Tank 400 uses an 800-volt architecture. If the Hi4-Z borrows from that platform, combined system output could reach as high as 635kW (852hp). GWM has not confirmed final output figures for the Tank 300 application.

Sales Context and Global Timing

The Tank 300 lineup sold 4,183 units in China in May 2026. Of those, the Hi4-T PHEV variant accounted for 588 units, approximately 14 percent of total monthly volume. The arrival of the Hi4-Z with substantially greater range is likely to shift that share considerably.

Pre-sales in China opened on July 6, 2026. GWM Australia has confirmed the refreshed model is currently China-market only, with the local team reviewing options and local-market suitability. A spokesperson indicated that Hi4-Z variants are a possibility for Australia, but no timeline or specific model selection has been confirmed.
