XPeng’s newest electric SUV is confirmed for Australia. The XPeng Mona L03is expected to arrive in the local market in late 2026 or early 2027, positioned below the G6 in the brand’s lineup and aimed at the Geely EX5 and BYD Atto 3. Its arrival also marks a pivotal moment for XPeng in Australia, as the brand relaunches under a factory-direct model following a high-profile dispute with its former distributor TrueEV.

The Mona L03 is a coupe-style electric SUV, its roofline sweeping back in a fastback profile that distinguishes it from the more upright crossovers that dominate the segment. In China, the L03 competes in one of the most crowded EV segments on the market. For Australia, it would sit below the G6 on price and position the brand to compete directly with the Atto 3 and the incoming EX5.

XPeng’s focus in this segment is technology. The brand has consistently used its driver assistance software and in-car interface as key points of difference, and the L03 continues that approach at a lower price point.

Powertrain and Range

The Mona L03 is rear-wheel drive, powered by a single motor producing 183kW and 280Nm. The 0 to 100km/h sprint is quoted at 6.6 seconds, which is competitive for the segment.

Two battery options are on offer. Under China’s CLTC testing standard, which tends to produce more optimistic figures than the WLTP standard used in Europe and referenced in Australia:

MONA L03 RANGE (CLTC)

Standard battery: 525km · Long-range battery: 625km Range-extender (EREV): 315km electric-only before generator activates

The range-extender variant is the standout option for buyers concerned about charging infrastructure. A small petrol generator supplements the battery, extending total range significantly beyond what the battery alone can provide. Whether XPeng brings all three variants to Australia has not been confirmed.

Interior: Screen-First Cabin

The traditional instrument cluster is gone. In its place, a 26.8-inch head-up display projects driving information onto the windshield, acting as the primary interface for speed, navigation, and driver assistance status. A 15.6-inch central touchscreenhandles the rest. The layout reflects XPeng’s broader philosophy of reducing physical controls in favour of screen-based interaction.

Pricing Expectations

Chinese pricing for the Mona L03 starts well below the equivalent of AU$30,000, but Australian pricing typically lands considerably higher once compliance, shipping, and import duties are accounted for. Early expectations place the L03 in the low AU$40,000 range for the local market, which would put it in direct competition with the current BYD Atto 3 lineup. XPeng has not confirmed official Australian pricing.

XPeng in Australia: The TrueEV Dispute

The Mona L03’s arrival comes at a complicated time for XPeng in Australia. The brand ended its distribution agreement with TrueEV in January 2026, terminating a five-year contract with approximately three years still remaining. TrueEV entered voluntary administration in March 2026. A Federal Court hearing between the two parties is scheduled for October 2026.

The dispute has drawn attention because of a $5,000 cashback offer that was made to XPeng G6 buyers in Australia during the period of the TrueEV partnership. More than 80 customers have received the payment, but a number of buyers remain unpaid. XPeng Australia has stated it is committed to resolving outstanding issues, without specifying a timeline. TrueEV, now in administration, has maintained that the obligations sit with XPeng. The Federal Court proceedings in October are expected to address those competing claims.

XPeng is moving to a factory-direct sales model for its Australian relaunch, which it says will give the brand greater control over customer experience and after-sales service. The Mona L03 is expected to be the lead product under this new structure, though the brand has not confirmed a firm on-sale date or confirmed dealer network details.
